David Riester

Dave brings 17 years of renewable energy and investing experience to his leadership role at Segue.
As a co-founding partner of two renewable energy investment firms – Lacuna Sustainable Investments and GSSG Solar – Dave has helped curate multiple innovative private investment strategies which served to capitalize almost 2 GW of renewable energy and storage assets.

As the Managing Director of the project finance team at Cypress Creek Renewables from 2015 to 2019, Dave facilitated ~3GW of operational projects, securing ~$5B of project level capital across cash equity, tax equity, construction debt, permanent debt, and development capital transactions. At CCR, Dave also served on both the Executive Committee and the Investment Committee for project acquisitions and investments.

Earlier in his career, Dave was a founding member of the Global Special Situations Group at SunEdison, charged with project acquisition valuation/underwriting and alternative financing and structuring. The Global Special Situations Group acquired over 1 GW of development-stage utility scale projects – assets which eventually formed much of the foundation for the creation of Terraform Power – and opened channels into new corners of the capital markets, unlocking dozens of previously marooned projects in the SunEdison pipeline. Before joining the solar industry, Dave was on the investment team at SVB Capital during the investment phase for 4 (all now top-quartile) venture capital funds, and a consultant at Cambridge Associates where he underwrote and recommended PE/VC fund investments.

Dave holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Middlebury College where he also captained the baseball team.
