Joseph Song
Joe is a pioneer of the US Solar industry with over 17 years of industry experience.
He has successfully shepherded over 700 commercial and utility-scale projects to commercial operations across more than 30 US markets. Formerly Vice President of Project Operations at Sol Systems, Joe built and led the team responsible for the development, engineering, and construction of commercial and utility solar projects, and was vital to the creation and deployment of the firm’s first infrastructure investment fund (a partnership with Nationwide Insurance). In his capacity as an Executive Team and Investment Committee member, Joe helped steer company strategy and allocate capital for project and corporate investments at Sol Systems.
Prior to Sol Systems, Joe was a foundational member of SunEdison as the leader of the Engineering team dating back to 2006. Joe’s system design and technical thought leadership – at a time when the industry was just gaining a foothold in North America - helped set the course for both rooftop and ground-mounted engineering strategies for years to come. As the inaugural Director of Engineering, Joe successfully built a high-performing development and project engineering team at SunEdison, establishing technical standards and processes that could (and did) scale with the imminent “solar boom”; his design and organizational prowess helped turn the great promise of SunEdison’s “pipeline” into a monetizable portfolio of fully operational power plants.
Joe acted as an advisor for SunFarmer for nearly 7 years, a non-profit solar development platform based in Nepal, and has continued to act as a technical advisor to the Department of Energy in evaluating early-stage technologies and platforms for grant award programs. Mr. Song holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University.
